As I sit by the banks of the River Barrow, I’m reminded of the profound changes shaping our world. Just as the river ceaselessly flows, so too does the news of environmental crises from around the globe. Amid these global upheavals, I find both solace and inspiration in the Barrow. This river, with its timeless flow, has been a constant presence in my life. Growing up along its banks, I learned to listen to the river and to recognise the interconnectedness of all living things. The river mirrored my own inner world, fostering a deep bond that has only grown stronger with time.
As a visual artist based in County Kilkenny, my work is rooted in an eco-spiritual practice that intertwines art, ecology, and spirituality. Influenced by Ecocentrism, I embrace the belief that all living beings, from the smallest microorganism to the vast cosmos, are intrinsically interconnected. This understanding has rekindled the profound connection to nature I experienced as a child.
My artistic journey has led me back to the River Barrow, a place of deep personal significance. Growing up where my garden was an island within its waters, I first began to understand the subtle language of nature. The river’s undulating flow resonated with my own rhythms, and it became a source of communication and inspiration, shaping my imagination and artistic vision. Now, I seek to revive that connection and explore the spiritual bonds that unite us to the natural world.
Through my artwork, I explore the vibrations and unseen rhythms that pulse beneath the surface of our everyday lives. I am drawn to the ancient belief that the universe was born from a primordial sound—a divine vibration that set the cosmos into motion. This interest in sound and vibration, along with my curiosity about the mystical dimensions of existence guide my creative practice.
Though my journey is deeply personal, it is also a call to others—a reminder to reconnect with the Earth in a meaningful way. In the face of unprecedented environmental challenges, we must remember our place within the web of life and understand that the health of our planet is intimately tied to our own well-being.
Join me as I traverse the meandering and archaic paths of the River Barrow, delving into her mysteries.
